David Giordano was a beloved coach and educator in the Palmyra-Macedon Central School District who lost a courageous battle with brain cancer in the fall of 2018.
To honor his legacy, family and friends have partnered with the Rochester Area Community Foundation to create the David Giordano Memorial Fund.
A goal of the fund is to raise money to assist with upgrades to Pal-Mac’s athletic facilities, and the creation of a multi-purpose turf surface. Funds raised will be donated to the district to help cover a portion of the local cost of a soccer/lacrosse artificial turf field.
On May 21, a community meeting was held at Pal-Mac Intermediate School where several designs of varying scope were presented. Following the meeting, the district consulted with architects and fiscal advisors to determine the best approach for athletic facilities improvements.
Based on input from the community and consultation with advisors, the district worked closely with the David Giordano Memorial Fund to determine the best next steps. It was agreed that a multi-purpose artificial turf field to support soccer and lacrosse would be pursued.
At this time, no final decisions have been made. The final plan will need approval by the Pal-Mac Board of Education before it is put to residents for a vote potentially in late 2020.
