New SRP/Drill Procedures
At Pal-Mac, safety remains a priority. The District is amending their current Emergency Response Protocols to the Standard Response Protocol (SRP), due to recently adopted changes made by the New York State Education Department (NYSED).
Students and staff will be practicing the new protocol.
The SRP is based on an “all-hazards approach” as opposed to individual scenarios.
There are five specific actions that can be performed during an incident:
-
Hold
-
Secure-Lockout
-
Lockdown
-
Evacuate
-
Shelter.
This SRP model is used in more than 50,000 schools, districts, departments, agencies, organizations, and municipalities around the world.
The District will provide further details throughout the year to give more insight into these five actions.
Adopting this protocol provides our students improved continuity when it comes to expectations and actions during a situation. For staff members, this becomes a simpler process to train and drill.
Additionally, state law now requires to Districts to give advance notice of any drills in our school buildings. Throughout the year, families will receive notification prior to a drill.
For the safety of everyone involved and to maintain order, we respectfully ask you do the following during these drills
-
Do not come to the school campus
-
Do not call the school offices (as they will be focused on the drill or actual emergency)
-
Do not contact students or staff members via cell phone or social media (as they will be focused on the drill or actual emergency)
-
Avoid social media posts. Correct information will be disseminated through Parent Square as soon as possible.
-
Please make sure that your contact information is current at all times so that you can be reached without delay in the event of an emergency.
-
In the event of an actual emergency evacuation, you will receive updated information on the situation
Please remember that these safety practice drills are done to help maintain our schools as a safe place to learn and work. Families play an important role in our safety practices.
