MAY 31, 2024—Checking the weather reports is an almost daily routine, and a group of Primary School students recently saw how those reports come together!

Mrs.Lindstrom’s Universal Pre-Kindergarten classes transformed its play center into a weather center as the class learned more about meteorology. Meteorology is the study of weather forecasting.

The class spent April and May learning about changes in our world, specifically seasons and weather.

Not only did the class learn vocabulary words such as, “predict,” “weather report,” “thermometer,” and “foggy," but it also conducted science experiments to understand the weather.

Lindstrom said one of the classroom experiments involved shaving cream and blue food coloring to demonstrate clouds and rain.

The class also watched videos of local TV meteorologists and explored how they present a weather report.

Students then had a chance to become TV meteorologists themselves and put their knowledge to the test!

With the help of Instructional Coach for Innovation Susan Grammatico, students presented their reports in front of a green screen and whiteboard.

They described the forecast over two days and even advised on what clothes someone should wear in those conditions!

Mrs.Lindstrom said the classes had a blast going through the entire process, as it gave them an appreciation of the process behind an almost daily routine.
