Students take part in the "Movement Room" activity

JAN. 30, 2026—From read-alouds to flying paper planes, the Pal-Mac Primary School celebrated learning, and the spirit of the Winter Olympics at its annual Family LEAD Night on Tuesday.

The event, themed “Go for the GOLD! Learn, Grow, Contribute,” brought students, families and staff together for an evening of hands-on, child-centered activities.

The annual event highlights how students learn and interact in a school setting while weaving in Pal-Mac’s core values. This year, the school decided to tie the core values to the Olympic Games, including teamwork, kindness and doing one’s personal best.

Students toss hand-made paper airplanes. They later traced how far their planes traveled, and turned that into a math problem.

Families participated in a mix of guided sessions, self-directed activities and open experiences throughout the building. Activities included Olympic-themed games for Primary Project students, winter-themed read-alouds, hands-on math and movement activities, and research experiences in the library.

There were also opportunities to meet special area teachers, therapists, intervention teachers, community partners and other staff members who support students and families. Additional activities included a Scholastic Book Fair, opportunities to meet Board of Education (BOE) members, Girl Scouts, and a service project where families created “We Care” cards for local businesses and nursing homes. Students could also create greetings for members of the U.S. Olympic Ski team!
