JUNE 13, 2025—The Palmyra-Macedon Central School District Friday accepted a special donation: A new American flag.
The James R Hickey Post in the Village of Palmyra donated the flag as part of the District's new flag pole, which was installed between the Primary School Main Entrance and the District Office. The ceremony happened just a day before Flag Day.
Post representatives joined District leaders as well as student leaders from the Pal-Mac Primary School during a special ceremony. The post's color guard presented the flag and then raised it up the new pole.
Both Superintendent Dr.Bob Ike and Adjutant David Borland shared remarks ahead of the flag raising. Borland, a retired Pal-Mac High School principal, said the ceremony recognized the importance of preserving tradition, and honoring the flag with dignity. Dr.Ike added the ceremony was a proud moment for the District and the community.
"The American flag reminds us of the freedoms we enjoy, the responsibilities we share, and sacrifices made by generations before us," Ike said. "May it stand here as a daily inspiration to learn with purpose, lead with integrity, and treat one another with dignity."
Following their remarks, the group of student leaders recited a patriotic poem about the flag.
The District thanks the Post for its generous donation.
