MARCH 19, 2025— A simple “thank you” can go a long way, and that’s exactly what a group of 8th graders proved Tuesday night.

The Middle School hosted the annual National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) Appreciation Banquet, an evening dedicated to celebrating and recognizing people who have made a difference in a student’s life.

NJHS students took the lead in planning and organizing the event, which included inviting those special members to join them. One-by-one, a student would step up and share a heartfelt speech about the person they chose to honor.

For some students, it was a current or former teacher, for others, it was a coach or a sibling. No matter who it was, students wanted to let them know they had an impact on them.

“What you do for others means so much, there isn't any other member of the community who does as much as you,” student Avery Hunt said to Palmyra Community Center (PCC) organizer Jim McGinnis “You've been an adult figure in the lives of so many children. On behalf of everyone, all the kids' lives you helped shape, thank you.”

At the end of the event, each student presented their special guest with a small gift bag as a show of appreciation.

The evening also featured a meal provided by our wonderful Food Services team, and a special performance from the Middle School Band.
