AUG.29, 2025— The Pal-Mac Middle and High Schools may only be separated by a parking lot, but for incoming freshman, they're stepping up onto a new level.

The Class of 2029 had a taste of what's to come on Tuesday as they took part in the annual freshman orientation.

The morning was jam-packed with sessions that covered topics like available courses and extracurricular activities, classroom and athletic expectations, and much more. There were also building tours and team-building activities. Each freshman also received a folder with important information as well as a name tag to wear for the day.

While administrators led most of the sessions, student leaders from Student Council pitched in to both greet and guide their new classmates.

"I look forward to doing this because I like to meet all the freshman and welcome them," Keira , a senior said. "Because I know it was scary my freshman year, and I was a little hesitant to come to high school, so I feel like this day really helps out."

Keira was one of several leaders who ran the welcoming table in the main lobby.

The welcoming atmosphere was not lost on freshmen Mattingly and Reese, who each said their guides made the experience an enjoyable one, and helped ease any nerves they had.

"It was really cool getting to see the school, and seeing a few a teachers and just getting to know my way around," Mattingly said. "The high school seems like a really cool place, and I’m excited to be here."

Both students pointed to the layout of the building as a positive, which included clearly-marked classrooms and hallways coded by subject.

"I was really scared about getting lost," Reese said. "But I definitely feel a lot better now."

The day finished with a large group picture in front of the new Pal-Mac banner near the gym entrance.

Special thanks to our team of administrators and students for their efforts. A reminder the first day of school for all students is Wednesday, Sept. 3.
