MAY 3, 2024—A Pal-Mac senior working part-time in a co-op received a special visit on Wednesday while he was on the job.
Danny Tingue started his day at FA Products in Ontario with a greeting from Superintendent Dr. Bob Ike and teacher Marcella Tilson. Tingue primarily works in inventory in the parts warehouse.
He gave Ike and Tilson a tour of the facility and shared more about his deep passion for all things automotive.
The visit is part of a newer, deeper effort by the District that began back in the Fall. Dr. Ike visited students like Danny enrolled in courses at the Wayne Technical and Career Center (WTCC) in Williamson. Danny previously attended the WTCC, where he took Automotive classes.
Partnering with WTCC creates an opportunity for Pal-Mac students to pursue learning in the trades and technical careers. It also connects students with real-world internship and co-op opportunities throughout the region.
In addition to connecting students to the WTCC, the District also uses Xello, an online platform. Xello supports students in gaining awareness of learning styles/modalities and potential career pathways.
Dr. Ike was impressed with his Fall visit to WTCC as he noted that many of the students there were able to showcase and demonstrate their passion, talents, leadership skills, and confidence. Tilson says the two then brainstormed an opportunity for teachers and administrators to create the same deeper connections with students attending the center by watching them in action.
That set the stage for Wednesday’s visit to Danny.
FA Products owner Tom Fortione joined Danny on the tour and lauded him for his passion and work ethic.
Danny says the work setting is expanding his knowledge and is preparing him for the next steps in his education post-graduation.
Danny plans to head straight to North Carolina to attend the Universal Technical (NASCAR) Institute to realize his dream of becoming a NASCAR Mechanic/Performance Engine Builder.
Pal-Mac remains committed to celebrating and valuing all dimensions of our learners both in and out of the classroom setting.
