SEP.11, 2024— Are you Red Raider Ready? That’s the question school leaders are now asking students to consider when they walk into school.

Being Red Raider Ready is a part of a new effort the District’s Deans of Students launched at the start of the 2024-2025 school year.  The effort is a series of behavioral expectations each building implements for students to promote a positive and safe learning environment.

These expectations used to be recognized as “non-negotiables,” but the title was changed as  the deans took a more positive approach to the messaging.

So what exactly does being “Red Raider Ready” mean? It means checking off five core principles:

  1. We are Kind
  2. We are Learners
  3. We are Safe
  4. We are Supportive
  5. We are Present

Under each principle are a series of actions, like using kind language, putting away cell phones in class, and participating in class with integrity, among other steps.

The work to re-brand the expectations was a part of the District's Blueprint for Action Plan. The specific action involves reviewing and communicating expected student behavior with families, staff, coaches and the community on an annual basis.

Each school building now has this set of expectations posted on its walls. Additionally, teachers were encouraged to explore these principles in their classrooms.

The Deans of Students include Wendy Ellis (Primary School), Tane Robinson (Intermediate School), Colleen Moquin (Middle School), and Jamie Heagney (High School)
