JUNE 7, 2024—With just one week before graduation, some members of the Class of 2024 crossed another stage Thursday night. This time, it was to honor them for their commitments in the classroom, by helping jumpstart their futures.
Students and families packed the High School Gym for the 36th annual Palmyra-Macedon Dollars for Scholars Awards Ceremony.
The ceremony awarded a record-setting combined $216,900 in private and organizational scholarships to 88 students. Some students received multiple scholarships.
The Chapter alone awarded $190,850. This surpassed last year's record of over $170,000.
Superintendent Dr. Bob Ike and High School Principal Andy Wahl served as hosts for the roughly three-hour ceremony. High School teacher Kevin Schlegel and his students live-streamed the entire evening on the Athletics YouTube page.
The evening began with a performance of the national anthem by the Pal-Mac Select Choir.
Student awards ranged from memorial scholarships to local business-sponsored scholarships, among others.
Since the Chapter started in 1988, it has ranked in the top 10 percent in money raised and is the top-ranked standalone Chapter in New York State. The Chapter has awarded roughly $2.9 million since it was founded.
“Our pride in the community’s accomplishment is exceeded only by our gratitude,” said Chapter President, Michael Boesel.
Boesel added that every senior who applied for a scholarship received at least one award.
