MARCH 8, 2024—Pal-Mac High School senior Ronan Connolly Thursday night added a new title to his resume: Award Winner.

Connolly was one of 24 area students to be selected for a Wayne-Finger Lakes (WFL) Superintendent Award. He was honored alongside his fellow students during a ceremony at the Wayne Finger Lakes BOCES campus in Newark.

Students selected for this prestigious award had to meet certain criteria such as having demonstrated outstanding scholarship (earning an 80% GPA or higher at the end of their Junior year), and showing exceptional leadership and citizenship.

Connolly was recognized for his work in the BOCES Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering program. His efforts over the last two years also earned him an ongoing position at the Rochester-based company, Bausch and Lomb, where he makes optics.

“The last two years have been very successful,” Connolly said. “I definitely found a lot in myself, and I am very happy with the program, how I performed in it, and what I have learned.”

His parents joined him at the ceremony, as did Superintendent Dr.Bob Ike, and High School Principal Andy Wahl.

Connolly says he plans to attend Monroe Community College (MCC) in the Fall, with an eye on earning his Associates Degree in Precision Machining.

He says Bausch and Lomb is supporting his decision, and he ultimately hopes to become an apprentice toolmaker for the company.

“I am beyond grateful  for this moment and for this opportunity,” Connolly said. “I look forward to reaping the benefits.”
