MARCH 23, 2026—Pal-Mac junior Ian Ryan became the latest Pal-Mac High School student to receive a special honor for his work in and out of the classroom.

Ryan was among a few students regionally to accept the 2026 Youth Leadership Recognition Award, which is coordinated by New York State Senator Pam Helming.

The award recognizes students who demonstrate exceptional leadership and achievement in academics, athletics, music, arts, and/or community service.

High school teacher Mr. James Hill and school counselor Ms. Shannon Yawman nominated Ian for the award, In a statement, both said they’ve observed Ian’s growth and contributions, which include, among other things, being a part of the Model United Nations program, the National Honor Society, and several varsity sports.

He also participated in several community efforts, and received awards from the New York Attorney General's Office, and New York State Council on Leadership and Student Activities (NYSCLSA).

“Ian is respectful, thoughtful, and an excellent student,” they said.  lan consistently puts forth his best effort and is a true asset to any classroom."

Mr. Hill joined Ryan at the award ceremony, which was held on the campus at the Victor Central School District. Both were joined by Superintendent Dr. Bob Ike, and Ryan’s family.

"At my school, I truly believe I make an impact on my peers and community,” Ryan said. “ After graduation, I plan on attending college and getting a degree in Mechanical Engineering."
