SEP.19, 2024— There is again an increased police presence at Palmyra-Macedon Central School District buildings.
The continued increased presence is a precautionary response to non-credible threats to schools in our region making its way around social media.
We are working with our Director of School Safety, School Resource Officer, and local law enforcement partners to monitor the situation.
Please know the District is taking this situation seriously, as are our law enforcement partners.
However, we continue to need your help.
As we’ve shared, students, staff and parents are all an integral part of the overall safety of our District by being our eyes and ears.
This is why we ask you to take a closer look at what is posted and shared online. Stopping to review a post may help you determine if it’s a false rumor, or something credible.
This recent string of posts contains a message or screenshot that implies violence at a school. There may not be a school or District directly named, but there may be a partial school name, or only school initials provided.
These messages have been shared and amplified on social media posts and discussions.
We understand students or families could see these posts and be concerned, particularly following tragedies like those that have occurred recently.
We ask you to not screenshot and amplify posts that contain threats to anyone except our schools and local law enforcement.
The widespread sharing of a false rumor unnecessarily heightens the fear for students and families.
If you see something, say something. Please report, don’t repost.
Safety remains a priority for the District, and we expect the continued police presence as we monitor this situation.
If you have any concerns, please reach out to the Main Office at your child’s school.
Thank you for your continued support.
