NOV.21, 2023— Pal-Mac community members and students just wrapped up a record-breaking effort to give back to local families in need.

The annual "Fill-A-Bus" campaign brought in 4091 non-perishable food items and toiletry-related items. The effort started at the beginning of November and ran throughout the month. It all culminated on Tuesday with students going school building to school building picking up boxes of donated items.

Those items were then brought to two local food pantries in both Palmyra and Macedon.

Dave Nagel, of the Pal-Mac Food Pantry, told students the pantry is seeing a growing number of families who need the pantry's service. He says the student's efforts came at the right time.

"There are people in the community who would not eat because they don't have food if it weren't for efforts like yours," Nagel said.

Athletic Director Tom Schmandt, who worked alongside students Tuesday, said:

"As always, we have a lot of work to do to ensure our families don't go hungry. This month's efforts paid great dividends and will have a positive effect on this year's holiday season."

Students in the High School's Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) classes helped organize the entire effort.

"It felt good to help out and provide for people who are need," said Jacob, a student.

The campaign is also a semi-competition between buildings. Leading the way was the Intermediate School, with 1724 donated goods.

In the end, it's the community that really won.
