STATEMENT: Report of weapon on Pal-Mac School Bus investigated

MAY,16, 2022 — Earlier today, the Palmyra-Macedon Central School District was notified that a student on a school bus was in possession of what appeared to be a gun.

The bus driver immediately intervened and reported the incident. Upon notification, the district implemented its emergency plans, including contacting the Director of School Safety and local law enforcement agencies to further investigate this matter.

No students or staff were hurt.

Based upon further investigation, safety officials identified the object as an unloaded pistol-style BB gun. Bringing such a gun on a school bus is reckless and endangers the safety of others. Possession of such an object has no purpose on a school bus.

Pal-Mac is committed to maintaining a safe and welcoming school environment. Every threat is taken seriously by the district and law enforcement.  Possession of a BB gun on school property is a violation of the Code of Conduct and will be treated accordingly by the district and law enforcement. Parents and students must also take this seriously and keep all forms of weapons off school campuses.

As a district, the well-being and safety of students and staff remains one of our top priorities.
