A Pal-Mac Middle School student and figure skater will soon represent the region on the big stage, on ice.
Rory Palmer will compete with her team at the Genesee Regional Special Olympic Winter Games this weekend, followed by the New York State Winter Games the following week.
Rory is a part of the Silver Blades Figure Skating Club, a community-based group in Rochester which is accessible and inclusive to skaters of all ages.
This is the second time Rory will compete in games, something she said feels like “heaven.”
“I feel very happy to be selected for the Special Olympics,” Palmer said. “And it feels like I’m ready to go for it.”
Rory and her team were featured on 13 WHAM’s “Good Morning Rochester” segment Tuesday morning. Check her out in action there!
Superintendent Dr. Robert Ike said:
"I know I am not alone in saying I am so proud of Rory and what she has been able to accomplish. All of us at Pal-Mac will be cheering for her to have continued success."

You can first catch Rory and the team in action Sunday at 3:45 p.m. at the Bill Gray's Iceplex near the campus of Monroe Community College. The state winter games begin on Friday, Feb.25 in Syracuse.
