From the Desk of the Superintendent - Update on mask mandate in schools

Health Update for Pal-Mac Families
From the Desk of the Superintendent

Monday, January 24, 2022

Earlier this evening a New York State Supreme Court Judge in Nassau County struck down the Governor's mask mandate. Following the ruling, Governor Hochul released a statement indicating that her team would be “pursuing every option to reverse this immediately.”

Additionally, at just after 8:00 p.m. the School District received notice from the New York State Education Department indicating the New York State Department of Health would be appealing the Nassau County court's decision - an action that would result in an automatic stay.

Because of this, the State Education Department made it clear that “schools must continue to follow the mask rule.”

The School District is required to follow the directives of the State Education Department and Health Department. We welcome all students and staff to school tomorrow with the same health and safety protocols that have been in place for several months.

Masks continue to be required on buses and in school buildings as outlined in our district plans.

The School District will continue to follow this situation closely.

Thank you for your continued support to ensure a safe, healthy, and caring environment for Pal-Mac's students and staff.
