COVID-19 Reopening Plan now available

July 31, 2020 - In accordance with guidelines established by the New York State Department of Health (DOH), the Palmyra-Macedon Central School District has formulated a school reopening plan for submission to DOH, New York State Education Department (NYSED) and publication to the Pal-Mac community. The plan prioritizes in-person instruction as per NYS guidelines and offers two levels of programming: a full return to school (Level 1) or remote learning (Level 2).

As part of Level 1 programming, school will reopen for in-person instruction. Students will attend school per the approved school calendar on a daily basis and for the duration of the regularly-scheduled school day, participating in all scheduled classes as designated by the color-day/rotation cycle of the specific school building. Implementation of the State’s health, safety and instructional protocols will be strictly followed including required face coverings and social distancing.

In addition to full reopening, Level 2 programming will offer remote learning. Students will attend school per the approved school calendar on a daily basis and follow the hours of an in-person school day according to a student's grade-level and remote learning schedule. Additionally, all students taking part in Level 2 programming will complete a digital citizenship course related to expectations and the code of conduct associated with remote learning.

Homeschooling (Level 3) is also available to families and is governed by the regulations of the NYSED.

Programming levels were formulated with strict adherence to guidelines issued by DOH and NYSED. Community feedback also guided the process with data utilized from surveys conducted in June and July.

Should the Governor allow school reopening in the Finger Lakes Region, the initial term for the plan as presented will be for the period September 9 - October 16, 2020 with parents/guardians indicating a preference for the desired learning experiences for their children during that time frame. Parents can expect further information from the district following any release of information from the Governor.
