The Palmyra-Macedon High School Wind Ensemble traveled to Montreal, Cananda, on April 27 to participate in the Worldstrides Heritage Onstage Music Festival. The adjudicated festival included over 600 students from 5 American States and 2 Canadian Provinces.
The Wind Ensemble performed for adjudicators Robert Gibson, Barry Bernhardt and Ron DiLaurio and had the opportunity to participate in a clinic with them afterward.
That evening, the group attended a semi-formal Dinner/Dance and Awards ceremony at which the band received a trophy for their Gold Rating and 2nd place Ranking in their class.
The Wind Ensemble was also honored with the Spirit Award, which is chosen by the Worldstrides Staff and adjudicators, and is given to the performing group that best represents their school, community, state or province.Heritage Festivals place great weight on this award because it is not just awarded for the music, but for the actions and attitudes demonstrated by the participants as they interact with each other, the staff and adjudicators throughout the weekend. There were 31 groups participating at this Festival, and the Pal Mac Wind Ensemble was voted the group that best demonstrated a spirit of competition, citizenship and an overall positive attitude.
