CDC and NYS Guidance
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recently released updated health guidance for K12 schools. On August 22, 2022, the New York State Department of Health in conjunction with the New York State Education Department released K-12 School health guidance that is aligned with that issued by the CDC two weeks ago.
Highlights from the Guidance

Universal masking is not required at this time in schools or on school buses. Local health departments have authority to implement masking requirements.

Students and staff may elect to wear a mask at their discretion. School staff will not be responsible for monitoring elective mask use.

Students and staff exposed to COVID will not have to quarantine.

Individuals who are ill are expected to stay home.

Students and staff who have symptoms of COVID-19 may be asked by the school nurse to be tested and/or the nurse may refer someone to their healthcare provider for evaluation and treatment.

Students and staff who test positive for COVID-19 will be required to isolate for 5 calendar days at home.

Individuals with no symptoms may end isolation after day 5.

Individuals with symptoms may resume attending school after 5 days if they are fever-free without fever reducing medicine for 24 hours and their symptoms are improving and they wear a mask through day 10.

Schools will not conduct contact tracing.

There are no physical distancing requirements in school settings at this time.
Other Related Information
The District will continue to operate using the best facility guidance and cleaning protocols, including the operation and oversight of air handling and ventilation.
The district will adhere to hygiene, cleaning, and disinfection requirements from the CDC. Hand sanitizer and wipes will continue to be available. Use will be highly encouraged. School staff should continue to maintain vigilance for classroom routines related to hygiene for staff and students.
The School Health professionals will follow the standards and protocols established by the School District's Medical Director.
With regard to COVID-19 and all other health-related matters, the directives of the school nurse shall be enforced including but not limited to isolation procedures, testing, referrals to healthcare providers, and/or evaluation and treatment for any symptoms of a contagious disease.
Absence from Instruction Due to Illness
When a child is absent from school for illness or any other reason, the parents or persons in parental relations must notify the School Health Office. Please remember to send a written note of explanation when your child returns to school. Missed work due to absence can be requested from the classroom teacher. For students in grades 6-12, call the Counseling Office prior to 10:00 AM to request missed work. Staff absence will be handled per building protocols.
