Meet the Principal
Dr. Darcy N. Smith, Ed. D.
Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year at Palmyra-Macedon Middle School. In my twenty-second
year as middle school principal, it is my privilege to continue to serve the students of Palmyra and
Macedon. As PMMS prepares to open its doors to this year’s students, I could not be more proud of
our staff and the academic and character education programs that we offer at PMMS. PMMS has
been recognized as a New York State School of Character, a National School of Character, a
Franklin-Covey Lighthouse School of Academic Distinction, and an IB MYP School. There are no
other middle-level programs to the west or east of us that hold this group of distinctions. These areas
of focus position our faculty to nurture students’ minds as well as their hearts. We prepare students
to be “READY!” following graduation, whether they choose college or career. Students think
innovatively, work cooperatively, and develop grit while being kind, caring citizens of their local
and global communities. Every student contributes to our school culture by taking on a role of
significance in our school as part of a DEAL (Drop Everything and Lead) group. We support each
student in finding a place where he/she can have a voice in his/her school.
PMMS will continue to offer a world-class program to students. Each year we work to refine what
we do, never settling for good and always seeking to improve; this year will be no exception to that
rule. I look forward to working with you and your child this school year.
