WTCC Skills Competition

WTCC Skills Competition

The Wayne Technical and Career Center (WTCC) offers an annual competition open to 8th graders in all Wayne County Schools.  This year's WTCC Skills competition will be held in the Spring.  Events in this competition represent each of the different programs offered by the WTCC. Counselors meet with 8th graders in January to discuss the competition and allow students to choose their “top three” events. Students are given a week to sign up and the counselors then choose participants randomly based upon their top choices. Most events allow only one or two participants, so choosing an event DOES NOT mean that you will be chosen to participate.

On the day of the event, students and counselor/teacher chaperones are transported to the WTCC, and students are escorted to their individual competition. They are given a brief overview of their event and then participate that event. Prior experience in a specific field is not required to participate. Lunch is provided by the WTCC.

Following lunch, the WTCC holds an award ceremony, and medals are awarded to students finishing in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place for each event.  Trophies are given to the schools with the highest number of total points.
