Meeting NYS Standards in Science

Palmyra-Macedon Middle School Science Department

7th Grade Science

Describe characteristics that all living things share.  Using the cell as a model,  understand essential life processes. Use microscopes to investigate cells.

Discuss hierarchy of cells through organisms.  Introduce overview of body systems, relating systems to organelles of cells

Breakdown of food into molecules that can be used for energy. Major organs include stomach and intestines.

Use traditional models to classify living things: kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus, and species.

Cells / Living Things

Human Body Systems

Classification

Transportation system of the body. Major organs include heart and blood vessels.

Circulation

Bringing oxygen into the body and releasing wastes. Major organs trachea and lungs.

Respiration

Control system of the body. Major organs include brain, spinal cord and nerves.

Nervous

Introduction of DNA and various means of cell duplication and replication.  Use predictive models: Punnett Squares and Pedigree Charts.

Genetics

Discuss organs and systems within plants.  Compare these to body systems.

Plants

What fossil tell us about the past.  Looking at how organisms adapt to be best suited to their environments.

Adaptation

Look at different environments on the Earth. Discuss human impact on / custodianship of the planet.

Ecology

Digestion
