Together Everyone Achieves More

Read! Read! Read!

At least 20 minutes each night as homework...

Don’t forget!

Welcome!

The 2007-2008 school year is an exciting one!  Please join me in the journey as your child grows into a stronger writer and more competent reader.

I am privileged to work with your student each day for approximately 70 minutes of English Language Arts instruction.  Our “A” days are “reading” days allowing time for independent student reading, guided reading instruction with me, a whole class read aloud novel including higher-level analysis, and cooperative group discussions of theme based novels.  Your student is immersed in exciting literature and given the time to develop personal skills and interests.

Our “B” days are “writing” days when we will discover the tools good writers use to perfect their craft.  Our lessons follow the researched techniques of Nancie Atwell and Ruth Culham’s 6+1 Traits of Writing.  Our classroom is an active learning environment where students are conferencing one-on-one with me about their writing, peer conferencing to expand ideas, composing rough drafts, and publishing finished products in contests and on student websites.  Over the years, numerous students have published their work in anthologies; even winning online contests and poetry competitions!

In conclusion, I would like to thank you for visiting our classroom website and for taking an active role in your child’s education.
