We work with computers, digital cameras, the Internet, and lots of different software too! We will also work with the Lego Mindstorm system. CVC typically meets Wednesdays after school.

Drama Club

The performing arts are alive at Palmyra-Macedon Middle School! Each year we explore a variety of performance genre including staged readings, puppet shows, and short plays. We will build our performance skills and share them with audiences.

We meet during Middle School’s activity period from 2:30 to 3:15 pm each Thursday. All rehearsals and performances will take place during that time. Students who sign up to be a part of this excitement are expected to attend regularly so that their talents and energy can be counted on and a consistent performance can be developed.

Eighth Grade Trip

After participating in fundraising events for the previous 3 years, our 8th grade students get to enjoy the fruits of their labors and enjoy a 2 day trip to different historical and fun filled locations. Previous years have taken trips to Toronto, Gettysburg and Washington, D.C..

F.A.R.

You and your middle school child are invited to participate in the F.A.R. (Family As Readers) program. Far is designed to increase the home-school connection and to foster a love of reading. It consists of a series of four evening sessions of one hour in length involving the “family team” (students and parent or community mentor). During each meeting the “family team” is given the opportunity to select an award winning book or book written by an award winning author to keep for their home library. The “family team” reads the book together and completes a project of its choice to share with the other member during the meetings. The goals of the program are to increase student motivation and a love for reading as well as to give an opportunity for parents and their middle level child time to bond.

Foreign Language Club

The Foreign Language Club is open to all middle students including 6th grade students who have not yet begun their foreign language study. The club meets once a week on Mondays from 2:30—3:15, except on Mondays when there is a faculty meeting. Students learn about different cultures from around the world and participate in all types of activities that promote a world community. In past years students created piñatas, tried several different types of international foods and learned about the world around them.

Game Club

The Game Club is open to all middle school students and meets on a weekly basis throughout the school year. It provides students the opportunity to play their favorite card, board and electronic games with others who have similar interests. Students are permitted to introduce new games and activities to the club, with the approval of the club advisor.

Honors Band

Honors Band is made up of approximately forty 7th and 8th grade band members for the sole purpose of creating a fine performance in ten rehearsals or less. Students are selected by the following criteria: membership in Jr. High All-County Band; participation in the County Solo Festival; availability for all of the rehearsals and for the performance; and an eagerness to be part of a high quality musical ensemble.

For the past nine years the group has performed at the Seneca Falls Pageant of Bands, earning trophies (many first place) and receiving many positive comments from the festival judges. Sign-ups are in March, after-school rehearsals begin in mid April, and the Pageant is held in mid-June.

Announcements about Honors Band will be made during band rehearsals in March, and will be posted on the bulletin board in the music suite hallway.

Jazz Ensemble

Jazz Ensemble is a middle school performing group comprised of seventh and eighth grade saxophone, trombone, keyboard and percussion players. The group meets every Thursday at 2:30 for the purpose of playing rock, Latin jazz, blues, swing and Big Band music.

There is no audition for Jazz Ensemble—students need only to attend on a regular basis. The Jazz Ensemble performs at the Winter Concert in December, the Wayne County Nursing Home in April, Jazz Night in May and at the Seneca Falls Pageant of Bands.

National Junior Honor Society

The National Junior Honor Society is a club of about fifty 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students that promotes high academic standards, leadership, volunteer service, citizenship and character. Members of the NJHS help out with “Open House” in September, sixth grade orientation and tours in the spring, and participate in many volunteer projects throughout the school year. Our favorite activity is the “Spike’s Hike” each Memorial Day weekend to raise money for Special Olympics. We have meetings on the first Tuesday of each month to decide what our volunteer project will be for that month. Attendance is mandatory at these meetings. Any sixth or seventh grader interested in joining NJHS must apply and be selected. Applications will be made available in February.

New Student Welcoming Committee

Students have the opportunity to assist in the transition of new students to our building. The New Student Welcoming Committee helps coordinate orientation days, and are often partnered with new students to answer questions and give tours. It is a great opportunity to become a positive “ambassador” for our school culture.

Student Council

Student Council is an extra-curricular club that participates in a number of activities throughout the year. It sponsors three student dances, a school-wide fundraiser. The Giving Tree, and a community service project. Members of Student Council participate in school assemblies, making relevant student announcements. Student Council meets every other Wednesday from 2:30—3:15.

Student Council has approximately thirty members. There are four officers: President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary. Officer positions are determined though a school-wide election at the end of each school year. The other members are student representatives. The representatives are automatically granted members hip for the next year, if they wish to continue. We do select a few new representatives each year from seventh and eighth grade to replace members that decided not to rejoin. Sixth graders will have an opportunity to apply for a representative position in the fall. Seventh and eighth grade members visit all of the advisories at the beginning of the school year to explain what Student Council is and what we do. During this time, any sixth grade student interested in applying for a representative position will be encouraged to fill out an application. Students are then selected through an interviewing process. Student Council tries to select an even number of boys and girls per team. Students are notified shortly after completing the interview as to whether or not they were selected.

All Student Council members are required to be in the Student Council advisory as well as attend the bi-weekly meetings, and participate in all of our activities.

Student Mentoring Program

Student mentoring in Palmyra-Macedon Middle School is defined as a one-to-one relationship between a youth and an adult that occurs over a prolonged period of time. The mentor provides consistent support, guidance, and concrete help to a student who is need of a positive role model. Students involved in the mentoring program may be going through a difficult and/or challenging situation, a period of life in which they need extra support, or they may simply need to have another significant adult present in their life. The goal of student mentoring is to help students involved in the mentoring program to gain the skills and confidence to be responsible for their own futures.

Yearbook

The Yearbook Club allows students to help design, create, write, and edit the school yearbook. There are many facets to putting together a yearbook and students will be exposed to a number of them with the guidance of the yearbook advisors. Student’s strengths will be utilized to provide a quality publication that will be part of the middle school tradition to be captured in print.
