             Health Tips

· Please keep your child home if he/she has had a fever, vomiting, or diarrhea in the last 24 hours.

· Please help us teach kids about the importance of hand washing.

· Washing hands is the single best way to prevent the spread of any illness.

· Please remember to update your child’s phone contacts if there are any changes during the year.  We need to be able to reach parents in the case of emergency or illness.

· Please call the school Nurse in the morning to report your child’s absence and reason for absence.  A written excuse MUST also be sent in when your child returns to school.

· Distribution of meds— New York State Education Law and regulations of the Commission have updated and modified their policy on prescriptions and over-the-counter medications.  In order to give any medication in school, we MUST have a written order from your child’s physician and written permission from a parent.  Medications must be brought to the nurse’s office by a parent/guardian, in the original container with the pharmacy label.

· Any child needing over-the counter medication must have a written prescription from their physician and written permission from a parent.  This means if a child has a headache and needs Tylenol or ibuprofen, we must have a doctor’s order and written permission from a parent in order to dispense that medication.  Physicians may fax their written order to the Elementary school at (315) 986-8223
