Pal-Mac High School E-mail Newsletter

June 2010 – August 2010

Hello Everyone!  Here is some news regarding graduation, exams, summer school and a few other items of interest.    Have a wonderful summer!

Regents Exams - June 15 – June 23

A copy of the exam schedule was mailed home a few weeks ago.  The High School page of the Pal-Mac web site also has a copy.   Students attend only when they are scheduled to take an exam.  Students cannot bring anything into the exam site except writing utensils and calculators.  Because students do not have access to their lockers, all other belongings must be left in the foyer of the gym entrance.  There are teachers assigned to supervise that area continually, but please do not allow your students to bring valuables with them for exams as we cannot be responsible if belongings are lost or stolen.

Report Cards

Report cards will be mailed on June 29, 2010.

Graduation

Graduation will be held at the Marvin Sands Constellation Brands Performing Arts Center in Canandaigua at 7:00 PM on Thursday, June 24.  Students must gather at the high school no later than 6:00 PM to board school busses that will take them to the Performing Arts Center.

Mandatory rehearsal will be held in the high school gym on Wednesday, June 23 at 1:00 PM.

Baccalaureate will be held in the auditorium on Wednesday, June 23.  Students need to arrive at 6:30 PM to line up and receive instructions.

Parents please make sure your seniors have turned in all books and locks that belong to the school.

Band Camp

There will be two sessions of Band Camp this summer to get ready for the Canal Town and Palmyra, PA parades. All band students are welcome to attend camp July 12 – 16 and August 23 – 27 from 12:00 – 3:00 PM. If you can’t make it every day, just join us when you can!

Creative Writing Club

The members of this year’s creative writing club have put together another issue of The Refrigerator Door.  Members of the club work year-round to develop various pieces of writing to include in the publication.  They also accept writing and art submissions from all grade levels.  Be on the lookout for this year’s publication on the high school’s website!

English 11 students visit Parkwood Heights

Students of Ms. King and Mr. Albert’s English 11 class have concluded their outreach program with Macedon’s Parkwood Heights’ residents. The students learned about the style of memoir writing and wrote five or six memoirs each to share with their pen pals at Parkwood Heights, to which the seniors responded back with their own writing.  All writing helped the students synthesize concepts they are studying about American Literature and “The American Dream.”  Recently the students and the residents celebrated their achievements with a “game day” featuring darts, pool, and Wii Bowling.

Dollars For Scholars

At their Awards Ceremony Thursday night, the Palmyra-Macedon Chapter of Dollars for Scholars gave $107,000 in scholarships to 109 high school seniors.  This evening marked the first time the Scholarship Chapter has surpassed the $100,000 mark.  Dollars for Scholars is a nationwide, non-profit program sponsored by Scholarship America, in which volunteers from the community seek scholarship endowments, and organize fund-raising efforts to provide scholarship money for local students.  These students are then eligible for matching scholarship funds from a number of colleges across the country.

The Pal-Mac Chapter of Dollars for Scholars was founded in 1988.  For the past 21 years, including our awards last night, our chapter has facilitated the distribution of scholarships to 1,356 Pal-Mac students.  The second milestone of the evening came when the amount distributed to students reached the 1,000,000 mark.  This outstanding and generous support for our young people should make every resident proud to be a member of the Palmyra-Macedon community.  The dollars for Scholars Scholarship is funded directly by the residents of Macedon and Palmyra through their generous support via: local organizations and businesses committed to supporting education in the community, by families dedicated to helping young people in honor and memory of loved ones, and by caring residents who have pledged to assist students in the pursuit of higher education.

Class of 2010 LAST BASH

Last Bash will be held directly after the graduation ceremony.  Seniors may still sign up in the main office.  Students participating will return to school via school busses and will celebrate their last evening together with a multitude of activities, food and fun.  Events include laser tag, a professional comedian, door prizes for everyone, international food, and everyone receives a free T-shirt designed by senior, John Sippel.
